"Our project was the total refurbishment of the ground floor of a large detached house (c 2002) in a conservation area, in outer York, with a budget of £80-100K. It involved planning permission to alter wooden patio doors to aluminium bi-fold doors overlooking the village green. Also 3 rooms, with structural walls were to be removed resulting in one large sitting room. Total refurbishment of kitchen, cloakroom and utility room. I found Andrew's firm through an online search. On initial meeting we were impressed by his enthusiasm, professional knowledge and warm personality. We devised a way ahead adopting a step by step approach with a fair fee at each stage. Andrew measured up, drew plans and efficiently administered all aspects of the window planning permission punctually. He recommended a structural engineer from his panel who similarly conducted the calculations and drawings to a similar standard to Andrews and at a fair fee. With the aid of his apprentice he came up with completed drawings and mood board designs for our consideration. He drafted a specification to put out to his and my panel of builders and then sifted through the replies. All builders replied and we appointed a builder from Andrews panel. They were fantastic in every way, old school builders. We were delighted with all aspects of their work and nothing was too much trouble and no 'extras' were encountered. Far from it they went above and beyond the original specification. Thank you. After putting out to tender, Andrew also appointed, with our agreement, a Building Regulations management firm from his panel. All planning permissions and building regulations certificates were approved. Throughout this whole process Andrew remained utterly professional and followed all RIBA and other guidelines at all times. He was always responsive to my phone calls and email enquiries punctually, professionally and courteously. Most of all, putting the above comments to one side, we enjoyed Andrews warm personable approach and it was a pleasure to work with him during a job which is never easy. The project was a huge success and are delighted with the outcome and are now enjoying our new home with costs coming in as we anticipated. Andrews agreed fee was paid with thanks.
