"What a find! I can thoroughly recommend Houghtons who we engaged recently to make and fit bespoke window reveals to the outside of our house. We’ve had various other firms say it couldn’t be done, not turn up or not understand our requirements. Houghtons were very different, taking repeated measurements, making a drawing and suggesting ways to solve the problem. The quality of the product and professionalism from first phone call through fitting and onwards is a testament to how all companies should aspire. We kept the team on to fit oak architraves and skirting too and will be commissioning lots more work. Very pleased!!"
"Its rare that I write a review but such is the incredulity of what we received by way of a quote from Houghtons that I can do no other. We were looking for some timber repairs to our exterior window sill and the cheeks principally, with a couple of other small jobs. Being 52 yrs of age & having been involved in developing houses I have a good handle on pricing. For what is probably £800 of materials for these components and 2 days 2 man labour I was expecting a price of £2.5-3k. Are u sitting down.... the repair quote came in at over £11,000!!! Yes, you read that right - for repair work not replacement. Alternate quotes that I initially balked at were around £2.5-3k. 2 small strips of 8" timber replacing - nearly £700! I wasnt sure whether to call the police as nearly being subject to daylight robbery! Defies belief. The reason for this post is hopefully to stop some potentially less diligent people accepting rates that are so far out of whack relative to what they should be and maybe have Houghtons think again re their pricing."
"Houghtons have done a superb job at our house, an Edwardian property. This was the building of a new wooden porch, modelled on the original period design, and restoring the original doors. Although all the original features were retained, double glazing was used for warmth and better insulation. Houghtons also recreated the original wooden doors of our sun room, with double glazed units and blinds. In addition, new ceramic tiles were laid under newly laid insulated concrete floors and some Edwardian doorstep tiles were removed and relaid inside the house. Some outdoor paving was also relaid with additional soakaway drainage. The project management and organisation was excellent and the project manager, Toni, was extremely helpful and flexible and had all the details at her fingertips at all times. All work was performed to a very high standard with great care and attention to detail and high quality fittings and materials were used. We also found that all personnel were very pleasant and helpful. We wouldn't hesitate, for a single moment, to recommend Houghtons."
"I cannot recommend more highly the team from Houghtons of York who restored two early 19th century windows on my listed property. They kept to the agreed period of work despite finding extra work that needed their expertise. They were considerate while working inside and outside the house and left me reassured that the windows will be in good order for a good time yet!"
"The workmanship, expertise and professionalism of the Houghtons team is second-to-none. We used them to replace our old 125yr old doors at a church in SW London. We could not be happier with the result and throughout the process the team were on hand to guide, advise and update. They reused the old ironmongery and the quality of the oaks shines through. Highly recommended."
